KENILWORTH’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), part of Warwickshire Police, have appealed to dog owners to think about their pets with the onset of high temperatures and humidity and which is forecast to last for at least a few days. Dogs should not be left in unattended motor vehicles in hot weather as their health and welfare can be quickly and seriously affected.
The appeal comes after Kenilworth and Warwick SNT’s were called earlier today (Friday 7 August 2020) to separate incidents where dogs had been left locked in cars in the heat and sunshine in Kenilworth and Leek Wootton. While primarily it is not a police matter they do support the RSPCA wherever possible and in extreme cases there can be charges brought related to animal cruelty.
Please follow the advice from the RSPCA shown below and avoid your pet suffering unnecessarily. If you see a dog locked in a car in the heat and are concerned for its welfare please call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8585 or alternatively Warwickshire Police on 101.
