  1. Thanks for these updates, although very depressing and a sad indictment on society. Are there any statistics on how the crime rate has changed in recent years? It seems quite high, but it could just be that you’re communicating it to us now, whereas we were ignorant about it before!

    1. Karen – the answer is in the latter part of your question. Kenilworth’s crime rate is quite low compared to some areas and a great deal of this issue is determined by perception. It is certainly the fact that as we are very proactive in reporting incidences that have taken place across the town it can easily appear Kenilworth is a crime “hot spot”. Evidence from incidents and crimes reported suggests that other areas are experiencing the same events and number of incidents but without an active Neighbourhood Watch may be unaware of the crime taking place in their midst.

We do realise that regular updates, when crimes are occurring, can be depressing and worrying. However, we take the view that it is best people know the truth of what is happening in their area, which enables them to take appropriate measures to deter and prevent a crime being committed against them.

The spate of burglaries in a few days last year is a good example. We highlighted that fitting anti snap locks is a major deterrent and would frustrate those at the time who were committing the crime. As a result some 80 households fitted anti snap locks and are this are much better protected than previously.

      We hope this helps.

      1. Hi Fraser

Many thanks for your helpful and informative reply.

        Regards

        Karen
