Distraction Theft – Kenilworth

Kenilworth shoppers and residents are advised to be extra vigilant when using their motor vehicles and in particular returning to their vehicles when parked. The advice comes after a female vehicle owner returned to her motor vehicle just after midday on Wednesday 14 June 2023 which was parked in a supermarket car park at Bertie Road, Kenilworth.

After getting in the vehicle and placing her smartphone and handbag on the passenger seat in preparation to drive away she was approached by an unknown male suspect who suggested to her that he had witnessed youths damaging the rear of her vehicle.

The owner got out of the vehicle and went to the rear of car where the unknown suspect kept on about the damage although there was nothing visible. Eventually the owner got back in her vehicle and drove home. She discovered that her smartphone, together with several bank cards, driving licence and bus pass had been stolen from her handbag.

This is crime reference 23/25048/23

Residents and vehicle owners are advised to be aware of this type of distraction theft.
