Vehicle Thefts – Kenilworth

TWO VEHICLES HAVE BEEN STOLEN IN THE LAST 36 HOURS FROM ADDRESSES IN KENILWORTH.

Between 12 midday and 12.15hrs on Wednesday 1 September 2021 offenders have stolen a Black Range Rover Sport motor vehicle that was parked on a private drive at Best Avenue, Kenilworth. The car was stolen without the keys indicating that this was potentially a “Keyless Entry” type theft. The stolen vehicle made off along Dalehouse Lane in the direction of Albion Street/Common Lane.

Between 22.30hrs on Wednesday 1 September and 0800hrs on Thursday 2 September 2021 offenders have stolen a Ford Transit motor vehicle that was parked on a private drive at Windy Arbour, Kenilworth. The vehicle was stolen without the keys indicating that this was potentially a “Keyless Entry” type theft.

This is incident 64 of 2 September 2021

These latest two incidents remind us that with more and more vehicles having keyless entry systems criminals are using technology to intercept the signal from keys inside a home and use the signal to fool the vehicle into unlocking itself and enabling criminals to start up and steal the vehicle.

We strongly advise owners of vehicles that have keyless car systems to follow the following two steps to significantly reduce the likelihood of having their car stolen:

Store your car keys in a faraday cage or pouch that prevents the key’s signal being intercepted. These are available online or at motorists stores.

We recommend this type of Faraday storage device:

Kolaura Signal Blocker – Car Key Signal Blocker Faraday Box with Car Security Key Pouch

Buy a visible and robust steering locking device – this acts as a real deterrent as the criminals just won’t bother because of the difficulty and time needed to try and force it off. Steering Locks are available online or at motorists stores.

We recommend this type of Steering Locking device:

Spate of Vehicle Crime – Kenilworth & Warwick Rural East & West Areas

OWNERS OF MOTOR VEHICLES are being advised by Warwickshire Police to ensure their vehicles are secure and are not left unattended with valuable items inside. The advice comes after a spate of vehicle crimes have occurred over the past few days in the Kenilworth and Warwick Rural East & West areas.

Over the past few days, in one case a motor vehicle was stolen, while in others items were taken with damage done to the vehicles to enable offenders to gain entry to the contents inside the vehicles.

Warwickshire Police’s advice is simple; Do NOT leave items of any value in motor vehicles. In July and August to date there have been several incidents where items such as wallets, bank cards, mobile phones, iPads and tablet computers have been left in vehicles causing the vehicles to have windows smashed and/or doors forced to enable offenders to steal the items.
