Distraction Theft & Bag Dipping Thefts – Kenilworth

Warwickshire Police are advising everyone to take extra care of their belongings, especially their handbags, purses and wallets when out and about shopping in town centre or shopping areas. They are also emphasising that you should never let people get close to you when you are at an automatic cash machines.  If  people will not move away then don’t use the machine and report the incident. Never give your bank details or allow anyone to see you entering your personal PIN codes.

The advice  advice follows three incidents that took place in Kenilworth Town Centre between Thursday 18 April and Friday 19 April 2019.

Please be aware that at around 11.45hrs on Thursday 18 April 2019 a lone female while drawing cash from an automatic cash machine situated at The Square, Kenilworth was distracted by being asked for directions by two females described as aged approximately 25 years old. The individual drawing the cash immediately removed her card and went inside the premises whereupon she found £500 had been taken from her account.

Please be aware that between 13.00hrs and 14.00hrs on Friday 19 April 2019 a female whilst shopping in Kenilworth town centre had her purse stolen from her bag without immediately noticing it had been taken. Consequently, a quantity of cash and banks cards were stolen.

Please be aware that between 12.00 (midday) and 12.30hrs on Friday 19 April 2019 a female shopper had her purse stolen from her bag in Kenilworth Town Centre, near to Talisman Square. Consequently, a quantity of cash and bank cards were stolen.

Property Thefts – Kenilworth

Please be aware that between 17.00hrs on Wednesday 17 April and 08.10hrs on Thursday 18 April 2019 an outbuilding belonging charity premises at Abbey End, Kenilworth has been broken into with padlocks being forced and broken. Two bags of Christmas stock were stolen.

Please be aware that between 09.00hrs and 17.00hrs on Thursday 18 April 2019 offenders have stolen a set of garden furniture including a corner sofa and glass topped table from the rear garden of a property at Henry Street, Kenilworth. It is believed the offenders may have accessed the rear garden from a rear alleyway. The offenders made off in a blue coloured people carrier type motor vehicle.

Swift response by Kenilworth Police leads to two arrests

Kenilworth Watch is pleased to report that only within weeks of a similar incident, where crime was being committed and police and the community came together leading to immediate arrests being made, a similar event and successful response took place yesterday.

”It really does show how vigilance, prompt reporting and immediate response from our Safer Neighbourhood Team and other police units does make a real difference” a Kenilworth Watch spokesperson said.

On Wednesday 17 April 3 offenders entered stores in Kenilworth and took items without paying. Kenilworth’s Safer Neighbourhood Team were alerted and together with other police response units conducted an immediate search of the area. Telephone calls from members of public also assisted police with the search.

Police units subsequently detected two suspects running across fields near Rouncil Lane, Kenilworth and two males were subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft.

Burglary, Caravan Thefts and Criminal Damage – Kenilworth

BURGLARY

Please be aware that between 23.15hrs and 23.30hrs on Monday 15 April 2019 3 male offenders dressed in black and with face coverings smashed the door to commercial premises at Common Lane, Kenilworth. One of the offenders was armed with a large object such as a crowbar. Once inside the offenders made a untidy search and a quantity of cigarettes were stolen. The offenders made off towards Coventry Road in dark coloured saloon motor vehicle.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Please be aware that between 08.30hrs and 17.00hrs on Monday 15 April 2019 offenders have smashed the front windscreen of a grey Fiat 500 motor vehicle parked at Bridge Street, Kenilworth.

THEFT
Please be aware that between 23.00hrs on Monday 15 April and 08.00hrs Tuesday 16 April 2019 offenders have cut a chain securing a stored “Swift Eccles Elite Trekker” twin axle caravan on land at Dalehouse Lane, Kenilworth and stolen the caravan. A second caravan was also stolen.

Theft of Number Plates – Dencer Drive, Kenilworth

Please be aware that overnight between Saturday 13 April and Sunday 14 April 2019 offenders have stolen the front and rear number plates from a black Suzuki motor vehicle parked on the roadside at Dencer Drive, Kenilworth.
