Warwickshire Police have issued the following advice today suggesting householders should check and review their home security. Kenilworth Watch fully supports the message and advice from Warwickshire Police.

While we need to our police to protect our lives and property each one of us also had to take responsibility to do all we can with sensible measures to protect ourselves and our property by deterring criminals. This advice enables householders to audit their own home and consider what, if any, gaps may exist and what additional steps can be be taken.

The clocks are put back by one hour this evening (27 October 2018) and consequently the evenings will be drawing in.

We want residents in and around Kenilworth to remain safe so we have listed some key steps that everyone can consider taking that  enable householders to do all they can to protect their homes and property by deterring criminals, particularly burglars.

It’s a good time to look at your home and personal security and ask the question

How easy would it be?

Here are our tips and advice to close any gaps and minimise yourself and your home from becoming a victim of crime.
If you’re going away or even going out for the evening, set a timer switch to turn your lights on when it gets dark. Unlit houses are a giveaway that no one is at home.
When going out or going to bed at the end of the day, remember to lock your doors, patios and downstairs windows. Also lock any windows on the first floor where access can be gained via a flat roof.
If you’re at the rear of the house or in the garden, lock your front doors and windows. This simple act will deter opportunistic criminals.
If you have a house alarm… USE IT. Make sure you set it when you go out and when you go to bed. If you don’t have a house alarm why not consider one? Monitored alarms deter burglars.
Don’t leave car keys, ID cards, or valuables near windows, doors or letterboxes, where burglars can reach through to steal them. If you have keyless entry with your motor vehicle then put your keys in faraday wallet (metal container or sleeve) to stop electronic interception of the key by offenders.
Lock your garden gates and side entrances. Don’t leave tools lying around in the garden which could be used to break in to your home.

Don’t forget about garages, sheds and outbuildings – make sure they’re locked and secure too

Try not to leave your house in silent darkness. Just leaving a radio on could make a potential burglar think twice


Never leave a spare key outside your house, burglars know all the usual hiding spots


Keep bins away from windows when they’re not being used as they can be used as a climbing aid for burglars

Register your property on Immobilise, the UK national property register https://www.immobilise.com/
Register bikes on https://www.bikeregister.com/

And remember… if you see anything suspicious please report it by calling Warwickshire Police on 101. If you think a crime is being committed or there is immediate danger to life and/or property then dial 999 and ask for POLICE.

Witnesses are sought that may have been in or around the vicinity of Pipers Lane & Spring Lane, Kenilworth between 1000hrs and 1100hrs on Sunday 21 October 2018 during which a white Skoda Fabia motor vehicle, that was parked in Pipers Lane, Kenilworth was stolen. The vehicle was subsequently abandoned in nearby Spring Lane and left with it’s doors open.

KENILWORTH residents are advised to keep up their vigilance as a property has been subjected to an attempted burglary which was foiled by the actions of the householder and locked and secured bicycles are being stolen.

Please be aware that at approximately 0345hrs on Sunday 21 October 2018 an offender attempted to gain entry using a metal object on the rear doors to a property at Hob Lane, Burton Green, Kenilworth. The householder was alerted and confronted the offender on the front drive of the property. The offender, who was male and wearing grey jumpsuit trousers, ran off along Hob Lane.

Please be aware that between 0800hrs and 1600hrs on Saturday 20 October 2018 offenders have stolen a grey Mamba Trek 29 bicycle, which frame and wheel was locked, from a secure communal bicycle store at a property in Pipers Lane, Kenilworth.

Please be aware that between 2000hrs on Thursday 18 October and 2000hrs on Saturday 20 October 2018 offenders have stolen a locked and secured dark blue and green ‘Specialized’ mountain bike from a car park at the rear of properties in Pipers Lane, Kenilworth. The bicycle has two distinctive and unique markings on the top of the frame.

The need to secure bicycles by using secure storage or with robust locks has been reinforced as another bicycle has been stolen within the town.

Please be aware that between 12 midday and 1530hrs on Friday 19 October 2018 offenders have entered a rear garden of a property at Webster Avenue, Kenilworth and stolen a Gents frame White Carerra Mountain bicycle.

A double car key burglary and criminal damage to parked motor vehicles are the latest crimes to have been reported for Kenilworth.

Double Car Key Burglary – Beechwood Croft

Please be aware that between 2330hrs on Thursday 18 October and 0030hrs on Friday 19 October 2018 offenders have broken into a property at Beechwood Croft, Off Rouncil Lane, Kenilworth and taken the keys to Jaguar F Pace and a Range Rover Sport motor vehicles. Both vehicles were then stolen form outside the property. Tracking devices activated on both vehicles which led to the recovery of one vehicle in the Knowle Hill area of the town. It is believed that the tracking device may have been ripped out of the other vehicle as this vehicle has not been recovered.

Criminal Damage – Spring Lane

Please be aware that between 1900hrs on Wednesday 17 October and 0900hrs on Thursday 18 October 2018 offenders have scratched several deep lines along the rear passenger door of a red Mercedes motor vehicle parked at Spring Lane, Kenilworth.

Criminal Damage – Whitemoor Road

Please be aware that between 1630hrs and 1700hrs on Tuesday 16 October 2018 offenders have damaged a Peugeot motor vehicle parked in Whitemoor Road, Kenilworth by scratching several lines along the side of the vehicle from the front panel to the rear of the vehicle.
