Kenilworth November Crime Spree – Fair Game?

More crimes have taken place across Kenilworth over the past 10 days or so and it’s clear that two issues arise from them. Vans/commercial vehicles are being targeted whilst car owners are continuing to ignore repeated messages about not locking and securing their vehicles. Vans have been broken into with the intention to steal any tools or valuables items found inside.

Van/Commercial vehicle owners are advised to take sensible measures, wherever possible, to protect their vehicle:

  • Park the rear of vehicle up close to something if possible that makes even forced entry into the rear of the vehicle impossible
  • Make sure the vehicle is alarmed
  • Fit additional locking to a vehicle where appropriate
  • If you can’t so any of these things then if practical remove valuable tools and items from the vehicle overnight.

For car owners its a simpler message:

  • Simply lock your vehicle and check it’s locked
  • Make sure you don’t leave valuable items or accessories to valuable items (like sat nav holders/chargers or mobile phone chargers/leads) on show.
  • Park your vehicle a close to your home as possible and if practical fit security lights to your home to illuminate anyone as they approach your vehicle
  • Heed the advice from police and neighbourhood watch

Once again Crown Watch appeal to residents across Kenilworth to take notice of these crimes and the advice to prevent them. If these notifications are ignored then criminals will continue to visit our town certain in the knowledge that some car owners don’t bother to secure their vehicles so its fair game to take anything left inside. Thieves are usually opportunists, don’t give them the opportunity to leave you feeling gutted!

3 Walk in Burglaries across Kenilworth on Remembrance Weekend as warnings go unheeded!

Crown Watch, one of the longest and most established Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Kenilworth is frustrated and concerned that advice that the police and Neighbourhood Watch have recently sent out to Kenilworth and District is being ignored and as a result opportunist burglars are continuing to be successful. The concerns come as further burglaries have taken place over the Remembrance weekend involving unlocked doors.

Of further concern is the strong possibility that offenders are prowling around many more properties, particularly at the rear, until they ‘strike lucky’ when they find a door unlocked. Crown Watch are advising two things in the light of these latest events.

1. Make sure that front and rear doors are kept locked at ALL times. As these crimes have shown a moments lapse is all that is needed for a criminal to enter your home and violate your space, take property, valuables and in some cases your vehicle. Whilst criminals continue to ‘get lucky’ finding unlocked doors and vehicles in Kenilworth they will keep coming back!

2. If you see people in your garden, at the rear of your property or something similar at a neighbours property contact the police immediately on 999. Don’t delay because we want to catch these criminals before more Kenilworth homes are the subject of burglary.
